Boutique thoroughbred nursery Luskin Park Stud was the leading vendor by average at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast sale, selling six of its seven yearlings for an average of $435,000, including a Snitzel colt for $925,000, now named Stratosphere.

Principal Paul Whelan's Luskin Park has plenty of good horses from the property to back up its sales results, including Gr1 winner Foxwedge, group winners Metallic Crown, stakes winners Kentucky Miss, Lady Jivago, as well as being a founding owner in Gr1-winning young Newgate Farm stallion Flying Artie.

In 2018, Luskin Park will again bring only seven yearlings to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Luskin Park bred Gr1 winner and now proven sire Foxwedge, and Foxwedge’s full sister, She’s a Wildcat, has her second foal for sale. Lot 297 is a colt by I Am Invincible. This is an excellent opportunity for buyers looking for a colt from a stallion producing family by a young proven sire.

Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice has done everything as a sire, and buyers can grab a well-related filly of his with Lot 719, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Dublin Lass, and group-placed Crafty Cop (sold by Luskin Park at this sale a couple of years ago). This is a strong Australian family that throws up good horses in every generation.

Redoute’s Choice’s Champion sire-son Snitzel has a colt in the Luskin Park draft, and Lot 155 is a colt out of group-placed winner Oriental Ruby (by Winx’s sire Street Cry), from the family of Gr1 winners Full and By, and Mon Mekki.

Fellow Arrowfield stallion Smart Missile is building a strong record as a sire, and his colt, Lot 414 is beautifully bred. A half-brother to stakes winner Le Cordon Bleu, and improving filly Sprightly Lass, this colt is also out of stakes-winner Ultimate Fever. Another yearling out of a stakes-winning mare is Lot 606, a filly by first season sire Deep Field from American stakes winner Cherokee Echo, who is in turn a full-sister to eight race winner and multiple stakes-winner Notoriously.

As expected, the breeders of Foxwedge would naturally support their boom yearling, subsequent Gr1 winner and now exciting young sire, and in 2018, Luskin Park will present a filly by Foxwedge, Lot 280, out of a young mare from the family of Hips Don’t Lie, Lake Geneva, No More Tears, Weatherly, and further back to Rhythm, Tristachine, and Western Music.

Ballroom Babe, Champion 2YO in NZ and dual Gr1 winner, has been a fantastic broodmare with recent stakes winner Kentucky Breeze becoming her fourth stakes winner. The others are Just Dancing, Hidden Dragon, and Tahni Girl (dam of Mashino). Lot 247 is a filly whose dam is a daughter of Ballroom Babe, making her a half-sister to the aforementioned stakes winners. And not only that, but this filly is herself a half-sister to group placed winner Into Orbit (again sold by Luskin Park Stud as a yearling) and three other winners.

With this stud farm's record on the track and in the sales ring, buyers should expect a lovely draft of yearlings once again from the fields at Luskin Park Stud at 2018' Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
