Situated in the picturesque Scenic Rim, just upstream from the Teviot River and only 90 minutes from Brisbane, Lucas Bloodstock is fully equipped to maximise both the physical and mental attributes of its yearling drafts.

The Lucas Bloodstock team is currently putting the final touches on what is an outstanding batch of yearlings for sale at the 2018 Magic Millions. It’s a draft that is not only highly commercial but also one which offers diversity. Progeny by proven stallions which jump off the page like Snitzel and I Am Invincible and new kids like Dissident that have been heavily spruiked on racing’s bush telegraph for the past 12 months.

This draft opens with serious clout and serious residual potential in the back pocket. Lot 227 is the filly by I Am Invincible from Hussonet mare Red Dress Marley. I Am Invincible puts the ‘C’ in commercial and is the perfect stallion to attack the rich 2YO race with 12 months on. He’s a winner-producing machine, and has been since he won the title of Leading Australian First Season Sire in 2013 – 2014. The damline of this filly is equally as imposing, being from a stakes-placed and valuable half-sister to both Gr1 Lightning Stakes winner Snitzerland and Gr3 Auries’ Star winner Sooboog. Further down the page you’ll find Gr3 Adelaide Guineas winner Nina Haraka, her stakes-winning, Gr1-placed daughter Extension of Time and Listed winner Pergram. If your aim is to buy a rocket off the plan you’d buy this filly.

Lots 364 and 597 are both by hyped first crop sire yearling sire Dissident, Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter of 2014-2015. The first is from stakes-placed mare Sun Valley, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Shenzhou Steeds. It’s a nice family that suggests middle-distance / staying excellence and tracks to Gr1 winners and leading fillies of their respective generations in Reganza and Kensington Palace. Meanwhile, Lot 597 is from a daughter of Fastnet Rock in Celtic Sea. It’s a family with its roots in the US and highlighted by Gr1 Kentucky Oaks placed mare Quinpool (third dam), Gr1 winner Gomo and Gr3 winner Omega Code.

The draft also doubles down on I Am Invincible with Lot 372 being by his outstanding Champion 3YO Colt and dual Gr1 winner Brazen Beau. This filly is from stakes-placed Grand Lodge mare Tahnee Tango, a three-quarter sister to triple Gr1 winner Shogun Lodge and half-sister to Gr3-winning young sire Worthy Cause and Gr3 placed Octane Flyer. Tracing to further two Gr1 winners in Singing The Blues and Referral, this is a family that has, in Ashes terminology, runs on the board.

Possibly the pick of the Lucas Bloodstock draft, on pedigree and commercial appeal, is the bay filly (Lot 615) by all-conquering Champion Sire Snitzel from Red Ransom mare Cinq Rouge. The pedigree page is a virtual runway of black type success. Cinq Rouge has already produced Gr3-placed Maysoor and is closely related herself to Gr1 winner Mr Murphy and fellow stakes winners Rigoletto, Golden Fawn, Alma’s Fury, Enforced, Takanori and Expressage.

Rounding out the draft is Lot 875, a filly by Gr1-winning Global Glamour’s sire Star Witness from the Encosta de Lago mare Badabing Badaboom, a half-sister to Gr1-performed South African filly Princess Varunya. It’s a family that has won from 1000m to 2600m, helmed by Gr1 Victoria Derby winner Amalfi.
