Lot 192 Zoustar x Tie Me Up

Woodside’s 2018 Premier draft is its biggest and best! Woodside Park Stud's draft at this year’s Inglis Premier Sale includes 37 well-prepared yearlings, that are a combination of well-performed pedigrees, proven producers, and the most enviable stallion matings in the catalogue.

Woodside’s Bloodstock and Sales Manager Matt Tillett is counting down the days to when he can proudly present the team’s beautifully balanced group of outstanding yearlings to the buying bench.

“This sale is important to us as its our own backyard, and every year the Inglis team strive to put together a very good catalogue, and we do our best to support that.” “With it being very much a trainers sale, the timing could not have been better with the launch of the $1 Million Showdown Race initiative and the great VOBIS Gold and Super VOBIS scheme Victorian racing has here.

“Standing stallions and selling yearlings are core to our business, so we endeavour to put together the best quality draft we can, and this group is indeed the biggest and the best draft we have ever presented at the Premier sale.

“We aim to be the leading vendor, and to make that possible, the whole team puts a tremendous amount of hard work and effort into preparing for the sale and we are all hoping for a very big week at Oaklands.”

Matt Tillett highlights a few of the standout lots and gives us his opinion as to why these yearlings need to be at the top of every buyers’ inspection lists.

Lot 192 Zoustar x Tie Me Up: “She is a half to Husson Eagle, who has won close to $1 million in prize money. We liked this filly from the day she was born, and she has continued to improve throughout her preparation. She has developed into a lovely scopey filly, with a great length of rein, and the typical floating Zoustar walk.”

Lot 239 Zoustar x Anelene: “A Woodside product, being Zoustar-sired out of a Stakes-placed Written Tycoon mare. Being a first foal, we could not be happier with what the mare has thrown, and he has become a well-grown, strong colt with a huge hindquarter and deep chest. We did a recent parade where the comment was made, ‘That’s your Caulfield Guineas horse right there!’ That is the style of horse he is; he can be a two-year-old and then get better and better.”

Lot 460 Written Tycoon x Kim Classic: “There is plenty of black type in this colt’s pedigree, with her dam a stakes winner by Encosta De Lago, her second dam a Group 1 winner and her third dam a Group 2 winner. We sold the Sebring half-brother for $240,000 to Tony McEvoy at this sale last year, which he has a very good opinion of. He is a very well put together colt, he will mature into a lovely big boy.”

Lot 553 Written Tycoon x Off The Planet: “This filly is out of a Fusaichi Pegasus mare, which is the exact same cross as Capitalist. Being also the broodmare sire of Blue Diamond winner, Catchy, it makes Fusaichi Pegasus one of the best broodmare sires of two-year-olds at the moment. This filly is well grown, tall, with a big, powerful hindquarter. She is typical of the Written Tycoon and has a good family behind her, she will sell very well.”

Aside from their own draft, Woodside Park Stud will also be keeping a close eye on the yearlings in the ring that are sired by their stallions. “From a stud’s point of view, we are so thrilled that there is a Written Tycoon being presented by most of the Victorian vendors, and that Zoustar also has an incredibly strong representation with 38 lots catalogued for sale.

“The recent overall sales results on the Gold Coast from both Zoustar and Written Tycoon were exceptional, with their yearlings selling for an average of $270,000.

“Practically every Written Tycoon yearling will bring home a handsome return on their investment, being off an $18,000 service fee, and he has also improved the value of the mare going forward by upgrading her pedigree.

“All the breeders keep telling us how excited they are to get to the sales, as they have a huge opportunity to make a significant return.”
