Basinghall Farm

Based on the recent success of Written Tycoon colt Written By, recent winner of the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude, Lot 210 is probably a good place to start in what is another classy and diverse Basinghall Farm draft at this year’s Melbourne Premier. The colt is from a twice winning Al Maher mare. What is particularly nice about this pedigree is that second dam Perfumery is by Zabeel. Other than being an absolutely outstanding broodmare influence, Zabeel’s grand-daughters are also starting to show the same ability to pass on his elite racing characteristics. The action in this pedigree is around NZ Gr3 winner O’Reilly Rose and Gr1 Newmarket Handicap winner Shamexpress.

On the topic of Al Maher, Lot 77 is by him. Another cot from a Zabeel line mare, Set To Talk, by Reset. This is the family of the flying Roulettes, with the dam also being a half-sister to Listed winner Sunrise Silence, Gr2 Gloaming runner-up Royal Integrity and Listed AJC Breeders’ Classic winner Discretion.

Lot 650 is the colt by Artie Schiller, sire of course of Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winning sprinter Flying Artie. And he’s from a Written Tycoon mare. This is a really racy family that includes Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Exceedingly Good, Listed Singaporean winner Common Interest and down the page Gr2 winner and Gr1 placed filly Avoid Lightning.

Fighting Sun was certainly a spruik horse on the track and his filly from Elvstroem Rose (Lot 686) is sure to have admirers. After all, the dam is a half-sister to triple Gr1 winner Regal Roller.

If you’re in the market for speed then Lot 751 is certainly worth an inspection. By Helmet from 5-time winner Mystifies, the dam has already produced Listed placed filly Fine Mist.

As with Fighting Sun, Kuroshio’s eldest are also 2YOs and Lot 30 is his colt from Sadler’s Wells mare Refuge. She’s had 6 to race for 5 winners and is a sister to Gr3 Ascot Princess Royal Stakes winner Narwala (herself a prodigious black type producer).

Reliable Man is a sire that produces standout yearlings, and they often sell for triple figures. And with his eldest still only 3 and expected to get over ground, he is already starting to repay the faith of buyers through the exploits of Gr3 winners like Erasmus and Narella, as well as 2017 VRC Derby 5th Main Stage, a Listed winner and Gr3 placed. His filly in the Basinghall Farm draft (Lot 628) is from US bred Theatrical mare Toastofbraodway. She’s already produced 3 winners and her dam is Arlington Gr3 winner Belle of Cozzene. The most salient name on this page is Funny Cide, the Champion Colt in the USA and winner of the Gr1 Kentucky Derby as well as the Gr1 Preakness Stakes.

Street Cry’s son Street Boss is doing a fantastic job both in Australia and Kong, with Gr1 winner The Quaterback and leading HK galloper Rapper Dragon representing him admirably. His filly (Lot 179) is from Symphony Miss, a half-sister to Gr3 C.S. Hayes Stakes runner-up Kingify.

Rounding out the Basinghall draft is the colt by Magic Millions winner Unencumbered from Tuckshop Princess, a half-sister to South African stakes-winner Flying Princess. The dam has so far produced 5-time winner Princess Arrow and the pedigree tracks to Gr1 WATC Fruit ‘n’ Veg Stakes winning mare St. Clemens Belle.
