Murrulla Stud
Lot 823 is closely related to Gr1 winner Seabrook (pic: Steve Hart)

In terms of sire strength and variety, Murrulla Stud's 2019 Inglis Classic Draft is a veritable smorgasbord. Couple this with a plethora of damline commerciality and this becomes one of the major drafts at play when the hammer starts to fall.

There's possibly no better place to start than with Lot 609, the colt by Brazen Beau from Pouter. Why? Because Murrulla Stud sold dual Gr1 winner Brazen Beau as a yearling. This colt comes from the family of Listed-winning Gr2-placed Excelltastic.

Another young sire with his first crop 2YOs currently shining in key early juvenile races is Rubick. It's certainly no surprise. He's by Encosta de Lago from a three-quarter-sister to Redoute's Choice. Murrulla has 3 Rubicks. Lot 244  is from General Nediym mare Dazzling Rose from the family of Gr1 NZ Oaks winner Midnight Oil, Lot 860 is from a young Denman mare and the family of Gr3 winner Yacquina Bay, and Lot 966 is from the scintillating family of Scandinavia (Magnus, Black Caviar etc).

Other stallions with oldest being 2YOs represented include Deep Field (Lot 828), a lovely filly from stakes-placed Bella Heart; Dissident filly (Lot 549), another running filly from a daughter of 4-time Gr2 winner Ateates and the family of Gr2 Light Fingers winner Paris Miss (dam of Gr1 winner Ruffles); Hallowed Crown colt (Lot 823) from a half-sister to both Gr2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic winner My Emotion and the dam of Gr1 Champagne Stakes winner Seabrook, and Lot 947, a filly from a winning Dehere half-sister to South African Gr2 winner Ten Gun Salute and Gr3 SAJC Fillies Classic winner Red Typhoon; two imposing yearlings by Northern Meteor's sire-son and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win, the first (Lot 178) from Captivity, a half-sister to Brisbane Gr3 winner Angel of Mercy and the family of Divine Madonna and Lot 583, the filly from stakes-winning Mossman mare Parriwi, a half-sister to stakes winning Scream Machine.

First crop yearling sires are also well represented. Lot 685 is a powerful colt by dual Gr1-winning sire Kermadec from 6-time winning mare Seesawing and closely related to stakes winners The Kildare Kid and General Minolta; Lot 857 is by Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winning sire Pride of Dubai from Encoasta de Lago mare De Lago Lass, a half-sister to Gr2 Queensland Guineas winner Rothesay. This mare has also produced to two black type winners in High Lago and Falago; Lot 1000 is by Gr2 Danehill Stakes-winning sire Rich Snuff from Snitzel mare Switmoa. Featuring a sex-balanced duplication of speed influence Snippets, this filly is also from a half-sister to Gr3 winner Savoreaux; Lot 858 is by Redoute's Choice's flashy young sire-son Scissor Kick and this colt has certainly thrown to dad. He's also from triple stakes winning US mare Defrere's Venture.

More established stallions with commercial appeal in the Murrulla draft include Charge Forward and his colt from Chatelaine - Lot 203 - (dam of Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Headway); the Dawn Approach colt (Lot 565) from a half-sister to Gr2 winning UK filly Nasheej, and another nice Dawn Approach, this time the filly (Lot 955) from a half-sister to Gr2 Stan Fox-winning millionaire Decision Time. There's also an Epaulette colt (Lot 554) from a half-sister to stakes-placed Omniscient and the prolific family of Que Sera Sera, a So You Think filly from a Fastnet Rock half-sister to stakes-winners Essington and Frespanol, a Teofilo colt from a winner-producing mare and a page that includes Gr2 South African winning colt Zelator, plus a similarly credentialed Unencumbered colt from the family of Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Guineas.

And be absolutely sure to inspect Lot 150, by buzz stallion and Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver (oldest yearlings) from Exceed and Excel mare Belle Symphony. A very thoughtful mating featuring a sex-balanced cross of Danehill via broodmare sire and Skates (broodmare sire of Vancouver) and a second dam by all-conquering influence Zabeel, who just happens to be a stakes-winner herself.
