Synonymous with breeding elite athletes, George Altomonte’s Dunedoo-based Corumbene Stud has no peer in recent years when it comes to the Group 1 Golden Slipper. No farm in the last ten years has produced more winners of the world’s richest two-year-old contest.

Successful in 2008, leading young sire Sebring was bred and sold at the Magic Millions yearling sale to Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds, while a few years later in 2013, Altomonte’s home-bred Overreach was simply breathtaking in her victory, racing in Corumbene Stud’s Orange, Brown Spots, White Sleeves And Cap silks.

With a mix of proven stallions and first crop sires looking to make their mark in the sale ring, Corumbene Stud’s 2018 Magic Millions yearling sale draft could well contain the 2019 Golden Slipper winner.

From the first crop of Group 1 WS Cox Plate winner Adelaide, Lot 9 is a brown filly out of the well-related Kylie, herself a daughter of Danehill Dancer just like the outstanding European race mare Minding, who like Adelaide is by Champion Sire Galileo.

Recently achieving his third individual Group 1 winner when his highly talented daughter Viddora captured the Winterbottom Stakes, I Am Invincible is represented by two within the Corumbene Stud draft, the first is the brown filly (Lot 107) out of the Mossman mare Mossarama, a three-quarter-sister to multiple Group 2 winner Staging from the family of Group 1 winners Duporth, Excites and young sire Delago Deluxe. Lot 778 represents the second offering of I Am Invincible, a colt out of Gourmet Garage who carries a double cross of Canny Lad, from the family of Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive.

Achieving his first Group 1 winner during the Sydney Autumn carnival with outstanding filly Alizee, Golden Slipper winner Sepoy had a slightly slow start to his stud career but has picked up considerably this year and Lot 253 is colt bred to be a two-year-old. The colt is out of the unraced More Than Ready mare Romincka, herself a daughter of dual Group 1 winner and Champion 2YO filly Hasna.

With the success of I Am Invincible on the track, the first crop of his dual Group 1-winning son Brazen Beau is sure to create plenty of interest in the ring after what was an outstanding start when his weanlings sold earlier in the year. Lot 445 is out of a three-quarter-sister to Flying Spur’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Alverta, from an exciting international black-type family.

The next through the ring from the draft has the Golden Slipper stamp of approval – by Golden Slipper winner Stratum, out of a winning full-sister to Sebring, a son of More Than Ready who as a broodmare sire has produced 112 stakes performers including Group 1 Blue Diamond winner Miracles Of Life and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unencumbered.

Likely to be crowned the Champion Sire for his second consecutive year, Snitzel will be represented by Lot 525, an impressive looking chestnut filly out of the Zabeel three-quarter-sister to Our Yangtze River from the Group 1 family of Neroli, Benfica and Riverina Charm.

A colt sure to have keen support when he enters the ring is the three-quarter-brother to the Gary Portelli-trained Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes winner Single Bullet who is on the path to the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas in January. Selling as Lot 605, the bay Stratum colt is out of the More Than Ready daughter of dual Group 1 winner Dashing Eagle, from the family of this season’s exciting colt Viridine, a winner of his first four starts, twice at stakes level before a gallant fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The draft concludes with two selling during Book 2 of the sale highlighted by Lot 969, the Epaulette half-sister to the Listed-winning, Group 3-placed Mr Unforgettable, from the family of South African stakes winners Petite Dane and Danish Silver, as well as locals Tallow and Beauty School.
