Selling a million-dollar yearling at the final sale at Inglis’ Newmarket complex was a real thrill for the team, and in 2018, the draft of 15 yearlings looks to once have the capabilities of providing the farm with further top-class results.

Kicking off proceedings for the Bhima team is Lot 23, a colt by Champion Sire Snitzel out of a Stravinsky half-sister to Group 1 winner Shower of Roses. From the prolific black type family of Eight Carat which includes the likes of Group 1 producing sires Kaapstad, Octagonal, Danewin, Commands and Don Eduardo, the pedigree of this colt suggest that he too has the page to become a Group 1 producing sire of the future.

The only mare to have won the Hong Kong Derby, Danewin’s daughter Elegant Fashion recorded numerous stakes victories and now as a broodmare has produced five winners from five to the track headlines by the Group 3-winning, Group 1 runner-up Star Fashion. Offered as Lot 108, the bay filly is by I Am Invincible out of Elegant Fashion and as a filly with extreme residual value, she is sure to sell extremely well.

Like Lot 23, 184 is a son of Snitzel, this time out of the three-time Group 3 winner Judged, from the family of the Group 2-winning, multiple Group 1 runner-up Lawyer. Another by the Champion Sire who has been highly regarded since day one is Lot 266, the Snitzel x Nureyev’s Girl filly. The filly is a three-quarter-sister to the Group 1 winner King’s Rose, whose Deep Impact son Satono Arthur is a multiple stakes placegetter in Japan, as well as the Group 2-winning, Group 1 placed Hardham.

Selling her Exceed And Excel three-quarter-sister at last year’s sale for $1 million to Peter Moody, the filly has been named Kings Iris and is in the stable of Mornington’s David Brideoake, the trainer of Hardham.

Another from the same family as last year’s million-dollar seller is Lot 189, a filly by Medaglia d’Oro, the sire of Group1-winning colts Vancouver and Astern. Out of the winning Commands mare King’s Violet, a half-sister to King’s Rose and Hardham, the New Zealand-bred filly comes from the family of Champion 2YO Anabandana, a dual Group 1 winner.

The sire of five Group 1 winners, New Zealand’s boom sire Tavistock will be represented by Lot 201 in the Bhima draft, a colt out of the Group 2-winning Rock Of Gibraltar mare Lovetrista. From an impressive black type family with the immediate family including Group 1 winners Tristalove, Viking Ruler, De Beers, Viscount, Don Eduardo and Kaapstad, this colt could be your 2020 Derby contender.

Producing the Autumn’s Group 1 VRC Oaks winner Pinot, as well as a host of other stakes performers, Lonhro’s Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Pierro has really started his stallion career with a bang and Lot 220 is a colt by the exciting young sire out of the Listed-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Mama’s Choice, a daughter of the Listed winner Red Hot Mamma, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Hollow Bullet.

At last year’s sale, Bhima sold the Redoute’s Choice x Piste Noire filly for $625,000 and this year a full-sister will be offered as Lot 289. From the family of Bhima’s Easter graduate and now Arrowfield Stud-based stallion Scissor Kick, the pedigree also includes Champion racehorses Intercontinental, Banks Hill and Promising Lead, as well as Champion Sire Dansili.
