The Hawkins family’s highly respected and successful Cambridge-based stud will be making a rare sortie to the Inglis Classic Sale in 2018 and their draft should be paid the ultimate respect by potential buyers. It’s a reputation supported by graduates that include 2015 Gr1 Doncaster Handicap winner Kermadec, 2016 Gr1 Herbie Dyke Stakes winner Valley Girl and 2017 Gr1 Telegraph Handicap winner Signify.

The Wentwood Grange boutique draft of 6 commences with Lot 53, an imposing filly by Foxplay’s sire Foxwedge from stakes-placed Cullen mare Sila Jasak. This is a filly that promises power and consistency and not many show as much of either trait as did grandam Grand Archway (4-time Gr1 winner from 1150m – 2500m) and her talented Gr3-winning Zabeel son Stand Tall.

Just over 100 lots later Lot 182 will parade. He’s a strong colt by emerging sire-son of Darci Brahma Super Easy, whose oldest are 3YOs and already include Gr3 winner Prom Queen. This colt is from Pentire mare Toomanycandles, a half-sister to previously mentioned Gr1 winner Valley Girl. Interestingly, the pedigree traces to Gr1 Queensland Oaks winner Round The World and her Gr2-placed daughter Grandmaster.

Lot 205 is auspicious in that she is the only yearling for sale at the Classic by Shamardal’s talented Gr2 Todman Stakes-winning son Ghibellines (a son of Camarilla from the rare-air family of Canny Lad, Canny Lass, Sepoy and Guelph). His oldest are yearlings and this filly is a half-sister to Singapore Listed winner El Milagro. It also includes Gr1 Caulfield Guineas 4^th Awesome Bro and athletic stakes-placed colt Muzdaher. Third dam is none other than Champion Sir Tristram mare Tristanagh!

Lot 256 continues the first crop yearling sire trend with the filly by Shooting To Win, a Caulfield Guineas winner by ill-fated sire phenomenon Northern Meteor. This filly also appeals as she’s from a half-sister to dual Gr3 winner and sire Pendragon, while her 2^nd dam is Champion 3YO Filly of 1995-1996 Alacrity., winner of the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks.

The penultimate lot is the colt by la Bella Diosa’s sire So You Think from Choisir mare Bay Meadow (Lot 276), a half-sister to both Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Shadows in the Sun and Listed winner Stone Canyon. It’s a family that has its roots in Queensland at the famous Eureka Stud and their Gr2 Kewney Stakes-winning / producing mare Eureka Jewel.

It’s certainly worth hanging around the new Riverside Stables for Lot 505, a colt by Shooting To Win from Darci Brahma mare Lunar Eclipse. She’s a half-sister to Gr3 Doomben Roses winner Awesome Planet, dam of Gr1 Emirates Stakes winner and Australia Cup runner-up Awesome Rock. It’s also a page with significant depth, tracking to successful sire Archway and triple Gr1 winner Dr Devious, and was recently updated further with I’m Feeling Lucky winning the Gr3 La Trice Classic at Ascot in WA.
