Xtravagant (NZ)
Scintillating sprinter-miler Xtravagant

(Pentire-Axiom, by Zabeel)
Stands 2017 at Newhaven Park Stud, NSW, for $16,500

A dual Gr1 winner who holds the race record for the NZ Two Thousand Guineas, Newhaven Park Stud's new recruit Xtravagant had ability to burn, often winning his races by huge margins.

In his only start as a 2YO, Xtravagant won by eight lengths, then continued on with equally impressive displays in his Gr1 victories. As well as the classic Gr1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas, Xtravagant took on the older horses (as a summer 3YO) in the Gr1 Waikato Sprint where he beat five individual Gr1 winners, smashing his rivals by eight lengths in a blistering time (1:21.92 for the 1400m).

Pentire has fashioned an outstanding record at stud, and Xtravagant is one of 16 Gr1 winners over a huge range of distances – from Prince of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup to sprinter-milers such as King Mufhasa. Pentire had a huge heart as a racehorse, and he has passed this heart and soundness to his progeny. Xtravagant showed this speed and ability in spades, and as an added bonus, Xtravagant is free of Danehill, providing additional motivation for breeders to seriously consider him for 2017 and beyond.

Xtravagant is a full-brother to group winner, and Gr1-placed He’s Remarkable, who also stands at stud. Both brothers are from unraced Zabeel mare Axiom, and Zabeel’s influence on Australian racing (and his ability to cross successfully with Danehill) needs no introduction to pedigree enthusiasts. This is also the prolific damline that has left Gr1 winners Sixty Seconds, Legs and Guyno.
