With less than a fortnight until the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction from February 26 – March 1, Inglis caught up with six leading vendors who expressed their thoughts on their respective drafts.

SUPREME THOROUGHBREDS: “Supreme Thoroughbreds is very excited to bring what is easily our biggest and best draft ever to Melbourne Premier. With 16 fillies and 24 colts, we are presenting a diverse group of yearlings by most of the leading stallions out of first-rate mares that are all well-bred with strong pedigrees. This group of yearlings are all exceptional types and each one is striking in their own way.  We are pumped and ready to parade out at Oaklands and hope that the quality on offer is well received by the local and international buying bench.  And no we haven’t moved – we are still in Barn H as always.” – Sue Shaw.

BLUE GUM FARM: “We achieved a record breaking gross at the 2016 Melbourne Premier Sale. From that draft has already come the undefeated 2YOs Jukebox - one of the favourites for the upcoming Blue Diamond Stakes - and Ducimus, who at $700,000 topped last year’s sale. We are very much looking forward to the 2017 sale with what we believe is a well-balanced draft of yearlings by both proven stallions and excellently credentialed young stallions. The team here at Blue Gum Farm have done another wonderful job preparing our draft and we are very keen to showcase them at Oaklands Junction from Tuesday February 21.” – Philip Campbell.

ROSEMONT STUD: “We are extremely excited to see the response from the market to what we think is our best ever Melbourne Premier draft. We have exceptional types that I really think people will admire. With the recent success of horses like Hey Doc, Fuhryk, Alboran Sea amongst plenty of others - all Rosemont graduates - I think buyers have a growing confidence in our product. The hard work of all the team will be on show and with stallions represented including High Chaparral, Pierro, Starspangledbanner, Zoustar, Snitzel, Starcraft and others, it promises to be an exciting week. We encourage all to check out our draft for inspection from Tuesday and join us in our marquee for lunch from Wednesday in Barn D.” – Anthony Mithen

THREE BRIDGES THOROUGHBREDS: “We are excited about the up and coming Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where we take a wonderfully balanced draft of 21 yearlings. We believe our draft is our best for many years, but we are smart enough to let the buyers be the judges of that. At the end of the day the trainers are looking for athletes, and that’s something we pride ourselves on by having great-mannered, well-developed athletic yearlings ready to tackle their next stage in life - racing. Inglis do a terrific job of attracting the best buyers from all over the world and we can’t wait to build and strengthen our relationships along the way.” – Toby Liston

GILGAI FARM: “Over the past 10 years we’ve sent Group 1 performers Black Caviar, Jameka, The Quarterback, Supido, Lucky Bubbles, Lion of Belfort etc to the Inglis Premier sale and we are confident this yerar’s is our best draft by a long way.  We have horses for every budget, bearing in mind we sold Lion of Belfort for $35,000 right through to All Too Hard for $1,025,000.  The star is obviously the half-brother to The Quarterback by I Am Invincible, but every yearling we have could not have had a more planned genetic map and in turn spent their entire formative year-and-a-half on our ‘Magic Grass’.” – Kelly Skillecorn

SWETTENHAM STUD: “Swettenham Stud are offering 38 Yearlings at the Melbourne Premier Sale this year and we are very proud of the strength and quality of yearling we are offering. Represented by 24 individual stallions, it is a quality draft that will cater to all buyers. The Premier Sale continues to grow in stature and we look forward to another busy sale and positive results.” – Brian Gorman
