The best ever son of Tapit, three-time G1 winner Frosted, the highest-rated son of Champion American stallion Tapit, joins the Darley stallion roster at Northwood Park this year.
Racing in the Godolphin blue, Frosted recorded arguably the most impressive win on an American racetrack last year when he claimed the coveted G1 Metropolitan Handicap (1600m) at Belmont Park by an astounding 14 and a quarter lengths in a Stakes record time of 1:32.73. On his following start, he claimed the G1 Whitney Handicap, a race previously won by leading international sire and fellow Darley stallion Medaglia d’Oro.
Frosted had already enjoyed G1 success at three, emulating his sire Tapit when winning the G1 Wood Memorial, and also landed the G2 Pennsylvania Derby before finding only American Pharoah too good in the G1 Belmont Stakes.
Frosted’s record Met Mile victory in 2016 earned him the highest Beyer Speed Figure ever given to a miler – 123. This was the best Beyer not only of the year (better than anything run by Arrogate) but the best awarded to any horse since 2007. Beyer Speed Figures are a numerical representation of a racehorse's performance, based on the final time and the inherent speed over the track on which the race was run. The higher the Beyer Speed Figure, the better the performance.
The very best G1 winners are capable of putting up Beyers above 115. Not only is Frosted's figure higher than anything run by recent champions Arrogate and American Pharoah, it's the highest of any stallion ever to shuttle to Australia. Medaglia d'Oro on 120 and Street Cry on 119 are second and third best.
