There is an impressive depth to the quality of New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series catalogues in 2016, underpinned by a large quantity of siblings and progeny of Group 1 winners. The Premier Sale attracts some of the best bloodlines in the world and this year is no different with 117 siblings to stakes winners catalogued along with 93 progeny of Group 1 winners catalogued.

Spring racing was fruitful for kiwi horses and there are number of pedigrees at the 2016 Premier Sale that have been enhanced by the success.

The victory of Prince of Penzance (NZ) (Pentire) in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup was a huge boost for his breeders Rich Hill Stud in more ways than one. Apart from the joy of breeding and selling a Melbourne Cup winner, the victory also adds to the pedigree of Prince of Penzance’s full-brother who is catalogued at Lot 45 in the Premier Sale.

Cambridge Stud sire Tavistock is one of the boom young sires in Australasia thanks to the victory of Tarzino (NZ) in the Group 1 Victory Derby. A full-brother to Tarzino is also catalogued in the Premier Sale at Lot 144.

The pedigree of Lot 223, a colt by Magnus in the Premier Sale, was already looking impressive thanks to his half-brother Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor) winning the Group 1 New Zealand Derby and Group 1 Australian Derby last season. With Mongolian Khan’s success in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, the Magnus colt’s pedigree is looking even more impressive. Another Group 1 winner during the Melbourne Spring Carnival was Turn Me Loose (NZ) (Iffraaj) who was victorious in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes. The bold front running kiwi has a half-sister by Power catalogued at Lot 323 in the Premier Sale.

They are among a list of 34 siblings to Group 1 winners catalogued in the Premier and Select Sales.

Siblings to last season Group 1 winners Sauvito (Lot 28), Shuka (Lot 160), Pondarosa Miss (Lot 188), Diademe (Lot 200), Costume (Lot 259), I Do (Lot 299) and Marky Mark (Lot 430) are catalogued in the Premier Sale. There are six siblings to Group 1 Derby winners including the already mentioned Tarzino and Mongolian Khan along with a full-brother to Brambles (Lot 22) and half-sisters to Monaco Consul (Lot 177), Lion Tamer (Lot 376) and Shootoff (Lot 710).

Progeny of 18 Group 1 winners are represented across the Premier and Select Sales as well.

Group 1 winners in Australia Honor Babe (Lot 319), Glamour Puss (Lot 306) and Vouvary (Lot 134) have their offspring going under the hammer at the Premier Sale.

One pedigree of particular international interest is Lot 445, a colt by the highest rated horse to ever race Frankel. He is the first progeny of the sire to be sold in the southern hemisphere and is out of Our Echezeaux (Zabeel), the dam of two stakes winners and herself a full-sister to Group 1 winner and Group 1 producer Grand Echezeax.

With 176 siblings to stakes winners and 146 progeny of stakes entered at NZB’s National Yearling Sales Series in 2016, there is plenty of choice for buyers.
