Premier Success Runs Deep

The Inglis Premier Yearling Sale is Victoria’s headline thoroughbred sale, and is one of the fastest growing sales in Australasia. Positioned between two great race days - MRC Blue Diamond Stakes Day on 27 February and VRC Australian Guineas Day on 5 March - the 2016 edition will be held on 28, 29 February and 1, 2 March at the Inglis Oaklands Sales Complex in Melbourne, and features a quality catalogue of 775 yearlings.

Inglis Victorian Manager Simon Vivian commends outstanding vendor support from across Australia and New Zealand, and growth in the quality of bloodstock offered at the sale, for the increases that the Premier Yearling Sale has experienced year on year. This coupled with the patronage of buyers from local, national and international markets, continued strong competition is expected at Premier in 2016.

The sale’s exceptional graduate honour roll is another reason for the sale’s popularity, the mention of which would be amiss without noting Black Caviar, a $210,000 purchase in 2008. However the depth of the sale’s graduate results runs far deeper than the unbeaten champion with other million dollar earners to be secured at Oaklands in recent years including Jameka, Snitzerland, Starpangledbanner, Pinker Pinker, Sertorious, Fawkner, Igugu and Trust In A Gust.

Good Project’s win in Perth’s Gr1 Railway Stakes topped off an tremendous 2015 which included the success of Premier graduates Jameka (VRC Oaks), Hot Snitzel (BTC Cup), Pasadena Girl (ATC Champagne Stakes), Shamal Wind (MRC Oakleigh Plate), Alboran Sea (South Africa’s Champion 3YO Filly) and Stepitup (Singapore Horse of the Year).

This year’s catalogue features 96 different sires. Proven stallions with strong representation (5 or more) include Redoute’s Choice, Fastnet Rock, Snitzel, Sebring, High Chaparral, I Am Invincible, Not A Single Doubt, Medaglia d’Oro, Choisir, Bel Esprit, Hinchinbrook, Star Witness, Starspangledbanner, Commands and Reward For Effort.

16 First Season sires are represented, ten of which are Gr1 winners. Pierro, All Too Hard, Excelebration, Ocean Park, Dalakhani, Americain, Animal Kingdom, Delago Deluxe, Your Song, Bullet Train, Harbour Watch, Niagara, Needs Further, Reliable Man, Squamosa and Super Easy offer an array of speed, brilliance, classic and staying qualities.

One of the highlights of the catalogue, the Blue Riband session, will conclude Day One of the auction with 48 Lots, each of which have been expertly selected by Inglis’ Bloodstock team on both pedigree and conformation, designed to excel at three-years-old and above, over distances of 1600m and further. Now in its fourth year, the session has been strongly endorsed with buyers securing 88% of the lots offered in Blue Riband at an average of $128,000.

Sires represented in the Blue Riband Session include dual Cox Plate winner and Champion Miler So You Think, Melbourne Cup hero Americain, High Chaparral, Ocean Park, Savabeel, Medaglia d’Oro, Fastnet Rock, Encosta De Lago, Helmet, Lonhro, Dansili, Darci Brahma,  Nicconi, Pierro, Pins, Street Cry, Teofilo, All Too Hard, and only one of four southern hemisphere yearlings this season by Shamardal.
