At Flemington in Melbourne, Haunui Farm shuttler Iffraaj (Zafonic-Pastorale, by Nureyev) celebrated an elite Gr1 success when 4YO entire Turn Me Loose (Iffraaj-Indomitable, by Danehill) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Murray Baker in the $1 million Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 5YO mare Politeness (Street Sense-Berengaria, by Commands) & 5YO entire Rock Sturdy (Fastnet Rock-Tzu Hsi, by Quest for Fame). Trainer Murray Baker said Turn Me Loose could now travel to Hong Kong for the Gr1 International Mile (1600m) in December, with the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in the autumn his long-term target. "He's a very good miler, he's so big and strong and he runs great sectionals and makes it hard for horses behind him," Baker told Racing.com. "I'd certainly like to take him to Sydney. The Queen Elizabeth is a good race, it's worth a lot of money and I've won it with Dundeel and I'm sure this horse will run 2000." He added: "He's out of a Danehill mare that's out of a Sadler's Wells mare and he relaxes well and he's fast so I think he can do it." Bred by NZ race commentator George Simon and his wife Maryanne, Turn Me Loose was purchased by Todd Hartley for NZ$52,500 at the 2013 NZB Ready To Run Sale from the draft of Mana Park. Turn Me Loose took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas, Gr2 Crystal Mile, Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas & Listed Seymour Cup) and 4 placings (including the Gr3 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes) from 11 starts for NZ$1,128,384 earnings.
