At Flemington in Melbourne yesterday, Vinery's Gr1-winning stallion Myboycharlie (Danetime-Dulceata, by Rousillon) celebrated an elite Gr1 success when talented 3YO filly Jameka (Myboycharlie-Mine Game, by General Nediym) scored by 2.25-lengths for trainer Ciaron Maher in the $1 million Gr1 VRC Oaks (2500m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow 3YO fillies Honesta (Monaco Consul-Always Loyal, by Bradbury's Luck) & Ambience (Street Cry-Miss Right Note, by Daylami). Jameka's classic victory was the second successive Oaks triumph for trainer Ciaron Maher, who prepared Set Square to win in 2014. "It's been a great job by the team. Really good owners… it's great to win a Group 1 for them. To Damien Oliver, a great ride, he rated her well in front and got the job done," Maher told Racing.com. "There's nothing better than winning a big race during the Flemington Carnival. That's what it's all about. I'm just thrilled to be able to do it for the second year with two very high-quality horses." Jameka, who is out of a half-sister to Gr1 Canterbury Guineas winner Jymcarew, was purchased by her trainer Ciaron Maher for $130,000 at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Gilgai Farm. She took her record to 3 wins (including the Gr2 Vase & Gr2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes) and 5 placings (including the Gr1 Thousand Guineas) from 9 starts for $1,033,475 earnings.
