At Royal Randwick in Sydney, on the final day of the Sydney Autumn Carnival, high profile Vinery Stud shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo-Woodman's Girl, by Woodman) added a Gr1 success (his 18th individual Gr1 winner) when 2YO colt Prized Icon (More Than Ready-Tropical Affair, by Danehill) scored by 2-lengths for trainer James Cummings in the $500,000 Gr1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) for 2YOs, over the maiden colt Chimboraa (Congrats-Pas de Deux, by Sadler's Wells) & the colt Divine Prophet (Choisir-Prophet Jewel, by Encosta de Lago). Following the scratching of hot favourite Yankee Rose last Friday, the race became far more open, and Prized Icon, who'd only just broken his maiden in the Listed Fernhill Stakes the week before, was more than up to the task. Not since 1998 has a juvenile completed the Fernhill Stakes-Sires Produce Stakes double – a notable achievement for Cummings who also saddled his first Gr1 winner in his own right. Prized Icon, retained to race by his breeder Gooree Stud when passed in for $250,000 at last year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, took his record to 2 wins (including the Fernhill Stakes) & 5 placings (including the Gr3 ATC Schweppervesence Handicap, Listed Lonhro Plate & Gr3 Black Opal Stakes) for $500,850 earnings.
