Star Turn is a powerhouse sprinter and the only 3YO colt retiring to Stud this season that genuinely measured up to WFA Gr1 in the Autumn.

Star Turn retires in 2017 following a three start Autumn campaign highlighted by Gr1 WFA placings in the Lightning Stakes, Newmarket Hcp and William Reid Stakes.

Not just a 3YO, in a stellar crop of colts, Star Turn drew first blood as a Spring 2YO in the Pierro Plate at Randwick before 2nd to Flying Artie in the Blue Diamond Prelude in the Autumn before his only unplaced runs (5th and 6th in Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper respectively).

Star Turn returned for a 3YO Spring campaign with a dominant victory over Golden Slipper winner Capitalist in the San Domenico Stakes Gr.3 and was never again unplaced despite taking on all comers. Sent to Melbourne, he produced another brilliant burst of acceleration to win the WFA G2 Schillaci Stakes against older horses (Malaguerra, Fell Swoop) and then signed off with a third in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Trainer John Hawkes put the result into perspective: “Give us the winner’s run and we win. Simple as that.

Star Turn stayed in Melbourne at WFA level for the Autumn of 2017 with a trio of Gr1 placings in some of Australia’s premier Sprints for older horses. He was unplaced only twice (both as a 2YO) and retires after 12 starts as one of the toughest 3YO Sprinters of his crop.

His sire Star Witness was a Group 1 winner as a two and three year-old, and he heads this season’s third-crop sires’ premiership with earnings over $4 million. From a Blacktype female line, Star Turn is an obvious outcross option.
