2017 will mark the fourth draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale for Ponderosa Park. From only small numbers, the farm has produced many winners, including recent impressive 2YO winner and now stakes placed Kiwi Ida (by first season sire Squamosa), and her yearling half brother by Ponderosa Park’s resident sire Niconoise is Lot 81.
Ponderosa Park will offer eight yearlings at the 2017 MM Adelaide Yearling Sale. One of the highlights is Lot 457, an Equiano filly from winning mare Tegula. Her first foal has won seven races, and she is a half sister to current Gr1 horse Heroic Valour, as well as tough Gr1 winner Triple Honour. As mentioned above, Lot 81 is a half brother, by first season sire Niconoise, to stakes horse Kiwi Ida from the family of 18-race winner, multiple group winner and Gr1 placed Royal Ida. Niconoise is a city winning brother to Gr1 winners Niconero and Nicconi. Ponderosa have two other lots by him, including Lot 353, a filly who is the first foal of a half sister to Mihalic from the family of Sertorius; while Lot 453 is a colt from the family of Strike Hard, Dr More, Presumed Innocent and Chinese Justice.
A beautifully bred colt, Lot 456, is out of Gr3 winner Techniques, making him a half brother to 2YO stakes winner You’re Canny; from the family of this season’s Gr1 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas winner Ugo Foscolo. A filly with strong residual value is Lot 402, by Tickets from Gr3 winner Kats Clause, which makes this yearling a half sister to Listed Tasmanian Guineas winner Mister John and three other winners.
Dream Ahead’s oldest local crop are 3YOs and he is represented by stakes winner Ken’s Dream. His colt, Lot 311, is the second foal of a city winning Al Maher mare from the family of Hong Kong Derby winner Elegant Fashion. An interesting yearling is Lot 68, a filly from a Danehill mare whose Zabeel daughter has produced Gr2 winner Single Minded. This filly is from the family of Zabeel, as well as recent Gr1 winner and young sire Hallowed Crown.
